Caravelle Hotel opened on Christmas Eve, 1959, and was the city’s premier venue for grand balls and functions. Since then it has welcomed countless dignitaries, politicians and celebrities.
In 1975, it was renamed Doc Lap (Independence) Hotel, commemorating Vietnam’s liberation. The original hotel was closed in the mid-1990s for refurbishment, with the addition of the new 24-storey tower, and re-opened on 8 May, 1998.
Saigon Saigon Bar, voted the ‘Best Bar’ in the city and Top 10 Exciting Entertainment Venues, dates back to 1959 and retains the original charm of original 10-storey hotel’s rooftop bar. It was once a famous gathering place for war correspondents.
In 2001, Caravelle Hotel hosted the cast and crew filming Graham Greene’s epic novel The Quiet American, starring Sir Michael Caine.

Small lobby but all the other facililites like Gym, Business Center, Casino that 5star rated hotel should equipped are compeleted on this Luxury Hotel in Vietnam. Fantastic restaurant with great rooms

We were delighted with the service with a smile attitude of the staff the hotel is centrally located with easy access to everything in ho chi minh the food in the restaurant was great and the roof top bar was fantastic

• Travel Tip: make sur you download the english to vietnamese app on your iphone as english here is pretty limited

located right in the city center surrounding with restaurants

It is my first time in this hotel eventhough I have been travelling in ho chi minh city almost every weeks last year. I found that caravelle located in a right spot of hcmc. to sit at the lobby bar and enjoy the nightlife of hcmc is great and recommendation. easy to find lovely restaurants and shops. the lobby is small and very crowded when tour group is there.

• Travel Tip: The Refinery. French bistro style restaurant with great food at a very reasonable price
