Reinhard Hohler Review

Reinhard Hohler is an experienced tour director and media travel consultant on the Greater Mekong Sub-Region. He was born in Karlsruhe (7.9.1950), a port on Europe’s Rhine River. His first contact with Asia came in 1970, when he started to travel east on the highway from Munich to Venice, then with the Orient Express train to Istanbul and further on through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to India. In India, he fell in love with the exotic life in the tropics and continued to Sri Lanka to visit the ancient Buddhist cities of the island.
In October 1973, during studying geology in his hometown, he came back to Asia to experience Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali, Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. Later on, for getting a degree in geology, he explored the tin mines of Phuket. Since 1979, he worked as a PhD candidate in ethnolgy at the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg University. Reinhard Hohler moved to Thailand in 1987 to engage himself in the tourism business and raise a family in Chiang Mai.
